Instructions to make a bird house…
- Roll out your clay to 7mm thick and add whatever design or texture you’d like.
- Use the cutters to cut out 2 face pieces, 2 side pieces, 1 base and 2 roof pieces.
- Cut a small circle out of your front face piece as the ‘entrance’ to the house
- Score and slip all 4 edges of the base piece and the edges of the walls where they will join
- Start piecing your bird house together, 1 wall at a time. Roll out thin sausages of clay and blend them into the joins where the walls meet on the inside of your bird house
- Repeat this until your bird house has 4 sides
- Smooth out the joins on the outside of your bird house too using your finger or a flat clay tool
- Score and slip the apex edges of the front and back pieces and gently lay your roof pieces on and then remove again. The slip will leave a mark showing you where you need to score and slip on your roof pieces
- Firm the roof pieces in place and smooth out where the pieces join together and where they join the house. You can use a thin sausage of clay here to help if needed
- Ta-dah! Now you have your bird house! Add any additional decoration you wish, just remember to score and slip any clay you add!
Once you have made your bird house they should be for decorative purposes only, please do not encourage birds to nest here.
