Instructions to make a pansy…

  1. Roll out clay to 7mm thick and use the cutters to cut out your pansy pieces – you’ll need 2 of the round petal pieces
  2. Gently pinch all around the petals to give a more natural look
  3. Flip one of the two petals over so you have a mirrored pair. Score the very bottom of the back of one of the petals and the front of the other. Paint slip onto the scored areas
  4. Slightly overlap the two petals and firm in place. Smooth the join with a damp paintbrush
  5. Score the base of where the 2 petals join and the back of the 2 petals piece. Paint on slip and firm in place, again sealing with a damp paintbrush.
  6. Score the middle of this petal layer and the back of the last petal layer, just on the top bit. Paint on slip and firm in place, sealing the join with a damp paintbrush.
  7. Roll out 2 small ovals of clay. Score, slip and firm in place.
  8. Use a damp paintbrush to smooth the joins and edges
  9. Soften and shape the edges of the pansy as you wish
  10. Leave the pansies to dry completely before firing.
