Instructions to make a gingerbread house…
- Roll out clay to 7mm thick. Cut out 1 front, 1 back, 2 walls, 2 roof pieces and a base
- Stamp whatever design you’d like onto each piece, make sure the wall pieces are in portrait orientation
- Flip the front, back and wall pieces and score the edges that will join. Score all edges of the base piece
- Lay a wall piece and the front next to the base and paint slip over the scored areas
- Stand the wall piece up against the base and secure by blending in a thin sausage of clay along the join
- Stand up the front piece and attach in the same way
- Add the second wall and back piece in following the previous steps
- Blend in and smooth out all the joins on the inside and the outside
- Score along the pointy edges of the front and back piece where the roof will be attached
- Paint slip on the score lines and place one roof piece onto the house and take off again. The slip will leave a mark to show you where you need to score on the roof piece
- Attach the first roof piece and secure with a thin sausage of clay on the inside join
- Repeat this process with the second roof piece but this time, blend a sausage of clay to the point of the roof where the 2 pieces meet and smooth out the top
- Score and slip small balls of clay to the top of the roof to add decoration
- Fettle the completed gingerbread house all over with a damp paintbrush and ta-dah!
