This item is for a 3D printed cutter to make a whale. This listing is for a cutter to make the base of the whale and a cutter for the fins.  The photos in the listing show you how to make your own whale, the finished item will be around 12cm/4.7inches long.

This cutter is printed in PLA filament. This item is not food safe. The photo of the bisque item is for inspiration only, this listing is for the 3D printed cutter for you to make the bisque pieces yourself. The colour of your cutters may vary at any time and may be different from that shown in the photo.

Description

This listing is for an item(s) that is printed with PLA filament using a 3D printer.  The photos alongside the main photo will show you bisque fired earthenware clay pieces made with the cutters / stamps and also some painted pieces for inspiration.  You will also find extra inspiration in our gallery.

This item is perfect for making your own bisque to sell in your PYOP studio, for use within a pottery studio, or for your own handicrafts…. the only limit is your imagination!

The colour of your cutters and stamps may vary from those shown in the photograph.

After use, rinse in cool water (never use hot water and do not soak) and dry immediately.  Store in a cool, dry place.

Instructions to make a whale…

  1. Roll out clay to 7mm thick
  2. Dust the cutters with talc or cornflour
  3. Cut out one whale base and two fins
  4. Make a pinch pot of clay which is the same size ad the round part of the whale base
  5. Score the base of the pinch pot and around the round edge of the whale
  6. Paint slip onto the scored areas
  7. Firm the pinch pot in place on the body base
  8. Blend the pinch pot body into the base with a flat tool or toothbrush end
  9. Smooth around the join with a damp sponge or your fingers
  10. Add a small sausage of clay at the back of the pinch pot body, where it meets the tail. Blend in and smooth out
  11. Shape the tail as you’d like to add character and movement
  12. Score the wide end of the fin and score an area on the side of the body where the fins will be attached
  13. Paint slip onto the scored areas then firm the fins in place, smoothing the wide end into the body. Shape the pointed end of the fins out
  14. Cut out a blow hole at the top of your whale
  15. Decorate your whale however you’d like. Just remember to score and slip anything you add. We added some water coming out of the blow hole
  16. Score some eyes onto your whale
  17. Leave to dry completely before firing
