Water Lily Petal And Lily Pad Cutter Set

Price range: £7.00 through £17.50

Make great bisque waterlilies to sell in your PYOP studio, for yourself to paint to sell, or to run as a workshop.

The full set option contains a 3D printed lilypad cutter and one petal cutter to make a 3D waterlily.

If you run this as a workshop, you can prepare a lilypad for everyone with the cutter in the full set, then give everyone a petal cutter to create the 3D waterlily. We’ve added an option to buy the petal cutters on their own as a set of 6 without the lilypad cutter so you only need to purchase one full set!

This cutter is printed in PLA filament. This item is not food safe. The photo of the bisque item is for inspiration only, this listing is for the 3D printed cutter for you to make the bisque pieces yourself. The colour of your cutters may vary at any time and may be different from that shown in the photo.

Description

This listing is for an item(s) that is printed with PLA filament using a 3D printer.  The photos alongside the main photo will show you bisque fired earthenware clay pieces made with the cutters / stamps and also some painted pieces for inspiration.  You will also find extra inspiration in our gallery.

This item is perfect for making your own bisque to sell in your PYOP studio, for use within a pottery studio, or for your own handicrafts…. the only limit is your imagination!

The colour of your cutters and stamps may vary from those shown in the photograph.

After use, rinse in cool water (never use hot water and do not soak) and dry immediately.  Store in a cool, dry place.

Instructions to make a waterlily…

  1. Roll out clay to 7mm thick and cut out a circle of clay the size of the base of a paper plate (we will use this paper plate to help shape the water lily petals)
  2. Use the petal cutter to cut out lots of petals (we needed 34 for the water lily shown)
  3. Add texture to the petals if you wish…we’ve added lines using a needle tool
  4. Lay the circle of clay in the middle of a paper plate and score and paint slip on the outer edge
  5. Start attaching the petals, starting from the outside of the circle, and resting the petal up the edge of the paper plate
  6. Use your thumb to blend the end of each petal into the circle base
  7. Repeat this process to get a first full row of petals
  8. Score and paint on more slip onto the middle of the circle and start adding the second row of petals – make sure to add the petals in the gaps of the first petal layers and slightly overlap the petals
  9. Repeat this process to add a final third row of petals – they should meet and join in the middle
  10. Blend in and smooth out the middle of the waterlily
  11. Cut thin strips of clay to make the middle of the water lily
  12. Roll these thin strips into thin sausages of different lengths and group them together. Cut off the end to give a flattened base
  13. Score and paint slip on the middle of the water lily and firm the centre piece in place
  14. Pull the strips of clay apart a bit and shape as you wish
  15. Gently curl up and shape the petals and use scrunched up pieces of kitchen roll between the petals to help support the shape while they dry
  16. Roll out more clay to 7mm thick for the lily pad. Add any texture you want before using the cutter to cut out the lily pad
  17. Score and slip the base of the water lily and the top of the lilypad where they will join and firm in place. Or you can fire the pieces separately if you’d prefer
